Man loses engagement ring after hiding it

A US brain surgeon's marriage proposal took a disastrous turn when he lost the diamond engagement ring at a Florida beach after burying it in sand for his girlfriend to find. Dr Steve Carr had carefully plotted how he would propose to Mary Naam on the shores of Pelican Bay at Naples but the plan started to go awry as he prepared to pop the question. Ms Naam was supposed to discover the ring as the pair were digging around in the sand while on holiday from Colorado last month. The brain surgeon told the Sun Sentinel he started to panic after digging around for a few minutes and failing to find the ring. "It wasn't very smart," he said. "I wouldn't recommend doing something so risky." He soon recruited up to a dozen helpers, including members of the public and resort staff, who helped the couple comb the beach for the missing ring. "In your head you're thinking 'oh yeah that stuff only happens in the movies'," Dr Carr said. After scouring the beach for a few hours, Ms Naam searched the internet for ring finders and two hours later Larry Spearing showed up with his metal detector. "We were digging and digging and I thought there was no way we were gonna find it," Ms Naam said. Mr Spearing was able to locate the ring in a matter of minutes and Dr Carr was finally able to pop the question. "I wasn't worried about the expense at all I just really wanted to be engaged to her," Dr Carr said. Ms Naam accepted the proposal and said the ring was "never leaving my finger again". "You gotta feel sorry for the guy, digging around in the rain for a couple of hours. How can you say no to that?" she said.
