To commemorate the 2600 years of Birth of Buddhism, the Light of Asia Foundation, National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka and the BMICH Foundation have organized an International Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Buddhist Film Festival.
A panel of judges have selected 40 films from entries sent by several countries. The films will be screened at the BMICH and Independence Square from May 18 to 22.
To give the film festival an international flavour and make Sri Lanka the hub for Buddhist cinema, several famous Buddhists who are international celebrities and superstars have been invited. A royal princess from Thailand, a famous sports superstar from the United States, a few Hollywood stars and a world-famous London-based luxury fashion designer are set to arrive in Colombo in the next couple of days.
Other celebrities from Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, India, Thailand and Malaysia include famous Malaysian shoe designer Jimmy Choo, actresses Amber Chia and Monisha Koirala and fashion designer Bill Keith.
